| Since 1222, Padua has been a significant learning and research centre. The establishment of a degree course in Psychology is much more recent (1970). At the present time, the Faculty of Psychology is located near Porta Portello and the old port that was used to go to Venice by boat (the Burchiello). The professors and researchers of this faculty carry out their teaching and research activities in a large number of areas: cognitive science, neuropsychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, perception and psychophysics, psychometrics, clinical psychology, etc. The Faculty offers more than 200 classes, many of which involve practical work. There are two Departments with well equipped laboratories: the Department of General Psychology and the Department of Developmental and Social Psychology. The library of the two Departments keeps a large selection of books and reviews that can be used for consultation, in both research and practice. The Computer Science Laboratories and Classes are equipped with around 200 workstations and several servers. Psychological services for the students and the staff of the university are offered. The very high quality of teaching within the Faculty is greatly appreciated as demonstrated by its ranking published by the independent CENSIS institute which, in the last years, has placed the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Padova at the top of all such faculties in Italy. Three-year degrees are offered in: Cognitive Psychology and Psychobiology, Psychology of Personality and Interpersonal relationships, Developmental and Educational Psychology, Social and Work Psychology, Professional health education (Interfaculty), Motor science (Inter-faculty). Two-year post-graduate degrees are offered in: Clinical dynamic psychology; Clinical Psychology; Social, Occupational, and communication psychology; Experimental psychology and neuro-cognitive behavior science; Developmental and Educational Psychology; Preventive and adapted motor science and techniques (Inter-faculty); Sport science and techniques (Inter-faculty). The Master degrees are: Parenthood and Child development preventive psychotherapy; Pair and Family Psychology and Counseling; Guidance counseling for Occupational and Educational Choices; Emergency Psychology: Psychological management of stressing and catastrophic events; Gerontological Psychology; Hospital Psychology; Learning Psychopathology; Forensic Psychopathology and Neuropsychology; Neuropsychology of acquired Cognitive Disorders; Assessment, education and development of human resources; Environmental Education.
